What does it mean to vault or unvault an item?

Updated September 21, 2026

Vault locks your item in the vault contract on its origin chain and sends a cross-chain message (through LayerZero) recording the lock and you as beneficial owner. On the destination chain, the canonical representation of the same item becomes claimable and then active. There is one active instance at any time — the item is never wrapped or duplicated.

Unvault (also called Activation on a target chain) is the reverse or onward step: the active instance moves to the chain you choose. Moving back to the origin chain releases the original from the vault to the beneficial owner.

Transfer is different from both: it changes who owns the token ID, wherever the active instance sits.

Your profile's Activity tab shows vault, unvault, and transfer events separately. The vault and escrow contracts on every chain are protocol contracts owned by UV Tech Foundation; neither Unvault nor the Foundation can move a vaulted item outside the rules of those contracts.
